One prominent part of Ubuntu's Unity user interface is the dash: a search interface that can be used to start applications, find files of various kinds and more. This interface is powered by a collection of search plug ins known as scopes.

The scope system is also a central part of the Ubuntu Touch user interface targeted at phones and tablets.

This talk will cover the capabilities of the scope infrastructure, how scopes are implemented, and some of the challenges we've faced bringing the scope infrastructure to the more memory and CPU constrained environment on phones.
